October 25th, 2005

Loyalist Lancers Ladies Varsity Team passes along special thanks to the Sockers FC for its support of the OCAA program.  Two friendlies were held in September between the College and the Sockers A and B teams.  The friendlies helped Lancers qualify for the OCAA playoffs for the first time in 10 years.  Sockers are closely tied with Lancers, having Mike Whitehead, Steve Whitehead, and Shara Lee Foster behind the Lancers bench, and many Lancers alumni on the Sockers rosters.

September 6th, 2005

Mike Whitehead presented Terry Boyd with the President's Award on Sept 3 at the Awards Banquet.  This Award recognizes Terry's never ending committment as a player with Sockers A and coach of Sockers Ladies A.  Congratulations to Terry ! An emotional Dave "Jake" Gaudaur was presented with the MVP award from coach Steve Whitehead, in recognition of Dave's many years of service to Sockers FC, and his efforts in back up goalkeeping this season.  Also, special thanks go out to CK for stepping up as keeper this yr, and Don and Connor for attending the league meetings.

SOCKERS LADIES ORDER UP A DOUBLE-DOUBLE

August 26th, 2005

Sockers Ladies A completed the double by knocking off arch rivals QOB in the playoff final on Aug 25 at Zwick's.  Under the expert guidance of coach Terry Boyd, the ladies successfully defended their Division 1 Title with a first place record of 12 wins, 1 tie and only 3 losses.  In the playoff final, after a 1-1 halftime scoreline, Sockers buckled down and showed their superiority dominating the second half to win 3-1.  Congrats go out to coach Boyd, the players, and managers Dana and Amy.  Your hard work and training shows, and we are very proud of you all.  Nice one ladies !

DOUBLE DOUBLE CONTINUED...

August 26th, 2005

French Brothers Sockers Ladies also successfully defended their Second Division Title with an awesome first place record of 14 wins, 1 tie, and only 1 loss.  The Sockers also won the B Tournament title for the second consecutive year to round out another Double winning season.  Sockers narrowly lost to Tall Trees in the playoff final 2-1.  Congrats to coaches Barb, Tracey and Mike, and all the players.  Not bad considering 10 new players this season !

SOCKERS MEN'S A RUNNERS-UP IN 05

August 26th, 2005

This was to always be a tough season for Sockers A, in repeating the phenominal 04 Double winning season.  In the end, Sockers complete '05 as Runners up in Division 1, with a respectable record of 8-3-3.  Special thanks go to Adam CK who turned in a stellar effort in Sockers goal.  The team governed itself with the pride and determination  that comes with being defending League Champions.  Steve the Saint had another great season behind the bench.  And all season comments bounced around that Sockers had lost a game or two.  Well, we always do, we're not perfect, and in fact, 3 were lost in total.  And where are those pillocks that wrote us off with their stupid comments, well they can be found behind us eating our dust, in the pack.

20th SEASON RE-UNION SURPASSES EXPECTATIONS

August 26th, 2005

The Re-union match held August 20th at Bain Park was a spirited affair, with many laughs and actually some decent soccer played.  The Scouser Saints Grey Team posted a 3-0 halftime lead and seemed to be cruising.   Sockers coaching legend Tom McCulloch gave a spirited half time talk, and his Blues responded pumping 3 past Iain Callahan, in a Liverpool style comeback.  Then it appeared that the Scouser Saints manipulated ref Tom Desgrosiers into adding on extra time so they could post the 5-3 win.  What a memorable day.  Thano got to play with his Dad, the Army brothers were re-united, Kevin played along side son Matt, and Gazza played with Rudy ... (?) Congrats to the coaches and players who all did a great job.  Thanks to Tracey and Kelly Whitehead, and Dave Gaudaur for their efforts. Memorable moments ... Tom McCulloch's vintage clipboard and excellent half-time talk, and Tom's 5 mile walk back to the Wahoo / Leo's dive and subsequent penaly shank a la MCSL vintage 1996 / and of courseTracey's plane and Saints ticket gift to Mike.  The Vagden spirit lives.  Thanks to you all for coming. CHECK OUT PHOTOS SECTION FOR RE-UNION PICCIES

In front of a large crowd on August 7th at Bain Park, the Sockers Ladies B and A sides put on a great soccer show, a real tribute to good sportsmanship in the name of the Sockers FC.  Sockers A got off to a quick start, and their pace and excellent passing led to a 5-0 halftime scoreline.  However, the Second Division Sockers B regrouped after Coach Whitehead's half time talk, and played a much better second half.  The match ended 6-0, and can be seen on Cablevue Channel 4, check listings.  Special thanks to "Meatball and Noodles" for covering the match, and also to Brain Laverty at Cogeco.

Wahoo Sockers remain undefeated so far this season in Second Division play, after beating 8 Wing Flyers 3-1.  Chris Carnegie scored early in the 1st half, his 4th goal in 3 games.  Jimmy Williamson made it 2-0 by finishing off a goal area scramble. 20th ANNIVERSARY VIDEO

March 31st, 2005

We will be making a video to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Sockers Club.  The video will contain photographs and music, with some minor video footage.  It is hoped that it will reflect all of us, the way we are now, and the way we were then.  Here is your chance to submit your stuff. I don't want people saying they were left out.  This should include all 4 teams.  It can include the youth club, as many of those players now play in the senior club.I am looking for photographs, or newspaper articles that reflect the Sockers organization and its members over the past 20 years. Photographs have to be in good taste and will not be included in the video if they are hurtful to anyone. They can be, and should be fun, which is what we are about. Even if they are drinking pictures.....which is what we are all about. If you can get your photograph(s) scanned, and send them digitally to me, that would be better. Digital photographs off digital cameras are great. Try to aim for jpg, tiff, or gif format and less than 1 MB per picture, and with minimum 300 dpi.If you don't have a scanner, give the photograph to myself, or your manager, and they will forward on to me. Please give me a date (or approximate) with the photo, so we can put them in chronological order. Please e-mail to:stevew@city.quintewest.on.ca.  I will let everyone know how this project progresses. Please remember to submit now. We plan on showing the video at the Anniversary Party, so don't leave it until a few weeks before to submit, because that will be too late.
